St. Pete Raiders Rec Academy
Pro Training for Rec Players

Welcome to the St. Pete Raiders and thank you for your interest in our program. The aim of the Rec Academy is to provide recreational players the opportunity of working with our professional staff coaches to improve and develop their soccer skills in a low-pressure environment, with an emphasis on individual player development and fun.

All players in the Rec Academy will have the opportunity to participate in two 4-week blocks.

For our U7 thru U12 players, each session will focus on a combination of technical development and small-sided games.  After your child experiences the St. Pete Raiders Rec Academy training program, they will be a better player; technically more sound, tactically more aware, and better prepared to take on all future soccer endeavors.

Upon completion of the final 4-week block, players that stand out and show their desire to take their soccer skills to the next level will be invited to participate in the St. Pete Raiders School of Excellence. Those accepting the invitation will continue their training in a small group environment, where they will experience an academy-type training atmosphere.  Training by our professionally licensed coaching staff allows for growth as a player and a person throughout their soccer experience, and better prepares the player for success both on the field and off.

Our program will be led by the Coordinator for the School of Excellence, Daf Jones, who comes to us with a history and passion of working with young players promoting the leadership skills, sportsmanship, and general love for the “beautiful game.”

Each session will be an hour long and will consist of a player to coach ratio of approximately 10:1.

Special New U8 Program
For those Age 7 on August 1, 2014

The Purpose of the U8 Academy is to teach the game of soccer the way it should be in these “Golden Years” of learning and in turn helping players to develop good habits on the field of play that will be with them throughout their soccer lives.

This training needs to be both fun, yet informative and help foster the love of the game which in turn will keep them playing and developing as both people and soccer players.

The game is divided into two areas - technical and tactical. Between the ages of 6-11 we tend to focus just on the technical side of the game, with a small slant on tactics as the players start to become proficient in this area. Tactics will then follow as they garner a better understanding of the game and the way it works.

There are no standings within this age bracket and no emphasis on winning thus removing untold pressure from the players and allowing them to express themselves and learn from their mistakes.

At this age professional training with qualified coaches plays a big part in their development along with training with like minded players will increase their chances of success as they mature.

The expectation is that they will attend the two mandated 1 hour sessions per week and play every other weekend so burnout does not enter into the equation. The season would normally span roughly 4 months starting in November-February with a break in December for the Holiday season.

This program is vital for those that want to be a part of the U9 - U10 Academy which is the gateway for Club soccer at ages 11.

The cost for this program is only $495.00, this will include a uniform, insurance, training and games. This fee can be paid in two installments to help defray initial outlay, but will incur a 10% handling charge.

Spring Soccer

Each Spring, St. Pete Raiders puts together a fun, low pressure soccer program.

Spring Soccer at the St. Pete Raiders is a great way for:

  • newcomers to try the wonderful game of soccer
  • past players to get back to the sport
  • current recreational players to have fun with friends
  • current club players to get more weekly touches on the ball while playing more relaxed games

Spring Soccer at the St. Pete Raiders is designed for game play only with no practices, no starting lineup. Coaches help referee the games and ensure that each player receives equal time in the games.

In the recent past, we have played 4 v 4 on small fields with small pop-up goals. Often girls play on same teams as boys, competitive players play with recreational and beginner players. Teams are determined by age.

Cost is low - around $65 and the schedule ranges from once per week on Saturdays (6 weeks) to two times per week on Saturdays and one weekday evening (4 weeks). Players receive a tshirt to help designate the teams.

Come and join us!

Summer Indoor Soccer

St. Pete Raiders Soccer Club

is proud to offer

Summer Indoor Soccer for U-6 to U-16 players

In the past, the St. Pete Raiders has offered Indoor Soccer to beat the heat in the summer. It is another low pressure option with new and experienced players typically playing together in this great sport.

Past coaches and any parents that want to coach, start recruiting your players and get them signed up to play at the end of the school year. We will do our best to keep the requested players together where there are enough registrations to form teams and keep competitive balance.

When
Session  I -- Early June thru Mid July -- 6 games over 5 weeks (July 4th weekend Off)
Session II -- Mid July thru Mid August -- 6 games over 5 weeks
Game Times
Games are normally scheduled on Friday nights and Saturday mornings first, however the league has the option to add Sundays or another weeknight during the week to get the games scheduled based on the number of game times required to complete the 6 game schedule. NOTE: The U-6 age group normally meets at the same time each Saturday for 5 weeks.

Teams
Consist of up to 8 players per team for U-8 thru U-16 age groups. Teams will be co-ed (like Spring 4v4 League) and made up of both Competitive and Recreational players. U-6 age group has a 20 player limit with no assigned teams.

Age Groups for Summer
U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16

U-6- Training session and mini-games (20 player limit, no teams)
Ages based on August 1st of that year.

Registration
Usually occurs in Mid May. Discounts may be provided for those that sign up for both sessions at the same time.

**Requests to play with friends, classmates, teammates, etc. will be honored where possible. These summer sessions are geared for fun and to allow players to keep playing soccer out of the summer heat.**

Costs
Registration fees are normally around $65-$80 per player for all teams except U-6 - their fee is lower due to only meeting 5 times.
